community colleges are so good! especially if your college has a transfer program, going to a community college first can give you better odds of getting accepted into colleges and universities, and sometimes can even guarantee you get into them!
and no one cares if you take longer than two years!! I’m planning to graduate with my AA summer 2020, and I started in fall 2016! Nearly everyone I know is taking 3-5 years to transfer. It’s not a big deal.
Its sad it needs to said.
Community college is fine. It’s also fine to not want to go to college at all.
There’s no reason whatsoever for a community college to be anything less than a more expensive one.
A landlord MAY NOT keep your deposit over ‘normal wear and tear’. They may ONLY collect on something that is YOUR FAULT. They cannot charge for carpet wearing down or needing a new coat of paint after a few years, or the furnace needing a replacement because it’s old. They can charge you for punching a hole in the wall that you never fix, or spilling paint on the carpet requiring a specialized cleaning or replacement. And they may ONLY keep what covers the repairs (If insufficient, then and only then may they keep the whole deposit, as in your deposit did not cover the damage you caused).
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS AS A TENANT. You landlord MUST return your deposit unless it was damage you directly caused, and ONLY the amount needed to fix the damage, and not one penny more.
Yes, that should read “low success rate” in the first tweet, but Twitter has no edit button ¯_(ツ)_/¯
But I’m forever done with private probation companies, for-profit treatment centers charging exorbitant rates, and AA and NA being seen as any kind of solutions to substance use disorders.
its true that crying wont solve things but we dont cry to solve. we cry to release
Taking the lid off a pot that’s boiling too much wont solve the problem of the heat being too high, but it will release the pressure so you’ll have time to get the heat under control before everything inside the pot explodes
Has anyone else noticed that as a society, we’re shamed for wanting to sleep? Sleeping in is bad, naps are only okay if they’re 20 minutes, you cant be tired unless you’re a <insert career/lifestyle choice here>, so on and so forth.
I mean, I think we all need to spread our blankets out, cuddle a pillow, and go to sleep. Everyone needs more of it, fuck this “it’s not productive” nonsense. It’s okay to sleep, it’s okay to want to sleep. You’re not lazy because of it.
reminder that cringe culture isn’t just about kids. let ADULTS like shows for kids. let ADULTS make bad mary sue self insert ocs. let ADULTS self ship. let ADULTS draw or animate poorly. let ADULTS be scene. let ADULTS make self indulgent headcannons. let ADULTS play fortnite or read creepypasta or watch anime. let ADULTS enjoy harmless, fun things.
yes, some adults do use internet culture to take advantage of kids, but that is only a very small minority. this is not about those adults. not all adults are mean, predatory, scary or weird and deserve just as much of a chance to enjoy themselves.
you don’t have to give up what you love, no matter what it is, just because you’re an adult
This is important because when you do the whole “you’re X age and you still do that??” thing, that makes people younger than that age think “oh no, i’m doing something that only young kids do, i must seem so immature” and start to feel ashamed and like they need to ‘grow up’
You know, while we’re on the subject, I met with a good friend a little while back for coffee. She told me that she and her husband had purchased essential oils for weight loss. She had been instructed by a salesperson to put a few drops of essential oils (I want to say they were grapefruit and mint) in a large container of water and to drink this several times a day.
She did lose weight. In some regard, this was effective. But she lost the weight because she felt too physically ill to eat. She reported feeling nauseated and lethargic all the time. She reported vomiting after most meals. I sat in the coffee shop and pulled up website after website, explaining why consuming essential oils is dangerous and why essential oil sales reps should not be trusted. Because the essential oils actually did make her lose weight, she was reluctant to stop, but being a sensible person, she did agree to stop consuming them. And she’s not a stupid person. She and her husband are both well-off, college-educated people.
Long story short, this shit is evil. It prays on people’s insecurities. I would say it’s modern snakeoil, but I think it’s actually worse. To the best of my knowledge, snakeoil was not a MLM scheme.
