If the ocean ever disappears DONT GO LOOKING FOR IT… go in the other direction

i know this sounds like a shitpost but isn’t this like, real advice regarding tsunamis

Yes this was about hurricane Irma it is not a shitpost

This is actually really good advice so let me elaborate a bit: if you notice the tide is retreating very quickly at a very odd time of day, get as far away from water and as high up as you can. I live along the ocean and a long time ago we had a small tsunami and a relative of mine tells me how her father saw the tides retreating so he just picked her up and just ran, which probably saved their lives.

So yeah DONT LOOK FOR THE MISSING OCEAN just run away

ocean not lost, ocean is actually winding up to kick you very hard in the nuts.

If you’re autistic and/or have ADHD like me, I recommend switching to ‘Simple English’ when reading lengthy and complex Wikipedia articles because it makes it so much easier to take in, comprehend, and understand

how to do:

On the sidebar on the left, there’s a list of languages listed in alphabetical order, so you have to scroll down a bit to find ‘Simple English’. But even if you can’t, you can just edit the URL from en.wikipedia.org to simple.wikipedia.org

Here’s an example of the difference between English wiki and Simple English wiki:

English:

Simple English:

[Image 1: A lengthy article about Japan in difficult words, with long paragraphs and no pictures.

Image 2: The article about Japan, only now the text has been compressed into a mere two paragraphs and there are pictures visible on the right (the Japanese flag), as well as a table of contents.]

Holy crap this is actually a life saver

This is important and wonderful. Knowledge should be available to everyone. Not just people with the right brainware or educational background.

a lot of fun comments on this post whining about people not “challenging themselves” with “hard words” like soN some of us LOVE hard words but can’t always process multitudes of them all at once.

There’s more information in “regular” English (you can tell from the Japan pictures alone, the simple English one is missing quite a bit of detail from the first, it actually omits the total number of islands which makes the bit about most people living on four of them a bit strange) but actually getting information is better than just having your eyes scan words, so.. (and sometimes you don’t need that much information anyway)

Also, it’s better for younger people who shouldn’t be expected to be able to read that density of information in the first place due to age. It’s also good if you just want a quick answer to a question.

However, the image description is somewhat wrong, the contents and that sidebar with the picture are there in every article. I guess it’s correct because it’s not shown in the first picture, but it makes it seem like the side bar and contents is a feature of simple English, which it isn’t. Every Wikipedia article has that, to my knowledge.

Also, simple English isn’t available on every article.

the idea of consuming two conflicting things that promise to do the opposite of each other has always been hilarious to me. there’s a liquid shot-based sleep aid called 6 hour sleep and as soon as I saw it i immediately imagined mixing it and a 5 hour energy together for a 1 hour nap

mix NyQuil and DayQuil to create Quil

what does Quil do

All the time all the time

Okay so, I did this, kind of. In junior year of high school I was taking History of the Americas (very very hard tests, like at least one person is guaranteed to cry). So one day I had one of these tests when I was /sick as hell/. Like I woke up and could not breathe through my nose. Everything was snot and headache and I know it’s gross, but like I’m trying to convey how desperate the times were. I went to take a DayQuil, but could only find NyQuil in the house. So i was like “fuck it, there’s no way this could be worse. ha. Anyway i take this and get to class and like already im about to pass out so during my independent study I go out and get a coffee and a five hour energy. Thinking like “okay I’ll die, but it should balance out for a bit.” And it did, initially. But then. As soon as I walk in the doors to class, it hit and I’m looking at my friend and he’s like “did you smoke, your pupils are like fucking quarters” and I’m like “o no.” So the test starts and my brain is feeling like that substance that’s like both a liquid and a substance simultaneously. And the test format is like this huge paper. So I get going on it, and here’s what happened:

-I wrote six pages front and back in 45 minutes
-I felt like I could “zoom in” “zoom out” my vision
-I asked one girl if I could borrow a pen three times and she was freaked out so I had three pens on my desk
-after the test I crashed HARD in the physics room and they had to push me out of a chair to wake me up
-but like, I got an A on the test. So I’m not saying try it, but

buddy thats a robotrip

Yeah, NyQuil has DXM in it, which is a cough suppressant but also has dissociative effects and can even cause hallucinations at high dosages.

It also has a sleep aid in it called doxylamine that can cause delirium.

Caffeine is just a stimulant– in the coffee and 5 hour energy– that counteracts some of the sedating effects of both of these drugs.

In conclusion, op was tripping balls and I don’t recommend trying this.

Here’s an unpopular opinion that shouldn’t be unpopular: Not wanting sex is a reasonable boundary to set for literally any reason. Be it your trauma, your mental health, your sexuality, or any other factor. Your partners should respect that and they should respect you. This shouldn’t be a debate.

I realize that everyone has different preferences, but if you are a writer that posts your work on tumblr, you should carefully consider the color contrast/text size of your theme.

I can’t count the number of times I’ve been excited to read something, only to click a read more and be met with text for ants and/or a highlighter or pastel color scheme. I have good eyesight, but imagine if you readers are colorblind or low vision. There are accessibility tools they could use, but wouldn’t you rather make it as easy as possible for readers to consume your content?

Think Ao3. Vox. Medium. Almost any popular, text-heavy site.

What do you see? High color contrast (usually black text on white background), LARGE body text, at least 16px MINIMUM. I realize that black and white can also cause eye strain with certain people, but at least it’s a start.

Have a quirky, design-y blog, but if you write, please think of the ones who may struggle reading the writing you’ve worked so hard to create. At the very least, always crosspost to ao3 where users can apply skins to make it easier to read.

But En, I don’t know much about design or user accessibility! Help!

Tumblr themes that are good for text

Start here, do a little googling! You’ll learn something, and your readers will thank you for it.

TUCUTES! DO NOT TRANSITION IF YOU DONT HAVE DYSPHORIA

I was once a tucute

I once believed that anyone could be trans, and that you didn’t need dysphoria to be trans, I thought I was trans even though I never had dysphoria, never was diagnosed and never had a therapist.

I started HRT back in mid 2017, lied to my doctor about having dysphoria, and was able to get testosterone with informed consent, and it was the worst thing I have ever done. My body is ruined, my life is ruined. It was a horrible mistake, but I was so influenced by tucutes I thought it was okay.

I never researched anything, I didn’t take it seriously, I thought it would be fun, because tucutes made it look fun.

Detransitioning is the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through, and I’m just glad that I stopped before I went through with top surgery.

DO NOT

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT

DO NOT TRANSITION IF YOU DONT HAVE DYSPHORIA!

TESTOSTERONE GAVE ME THE WORST DYSPHORIA TO THE POINT WHERE I WAS SUICIDAL!

Tucutes need to listen for once, and understand that they’re wrong. Stop trying to demedicalize a SERIOUS MEDICAL CONDITION! IF YOU DONT HAVE DYSPHORIA GUESS WHAT

YOURE CIS
