Real talk, as a teacher in England I can confirm that the British government does everything and anything to avoid teaching the true extent of colonial history to English kids.
You ask a modern English teenager about Northern Ireland and they probably can’t tell you about fucking anything currently going on there bar ‘I think we weren’t nice to them’, and that’s the country next fucking door so you know they don’t know shit about India or the Middle East.
The English government PURPOSEFULLY does not teach English children the real in’s and out’s of the British Empire despite a recent call to ‘widen the breadth of our curriculum’ because then where would our football hooligans who defend statues come from?
Have a good conversation with any bald headed English bloke wearing an England football shirt with an EDL tattoo and test his knowledge of the Empire he loves so much. 100 quid he knows fuck all beyond ‘we civilized those people!’
And this is why no one fucking likes us, because there’s no active effort to teach our younger generations why we were wrong or how to make things better, but there’s a clear educational agenda to shield young English children from any extensive criticism of England.

My friend was visiting me the other day and as she sat in my living room she noticed my plastic hairbrush on the table.
“Why do you have a plastic hairbrush I thought you care about nature and you try to avoid plastic!”
Why? Because I can still use it. I have had this brush for cca 12 years. It is not broken. It’s fine. And I will have it for as long as it works and then buy a good alternative. We don’t throw away things that work perfectly fine just to prove to other people, that we care. We use the things we have FIRST!
There is no need for buying a stainless steel lunch box if you can still use an old plastic one. It’s fine.
USE WHAT YOU HAVE FIRST and when it no longer works like it should, dispose of it responsibly and then get a good alternative. You don’t have to prove anything to anyone.

Also, durable plastic is not nearly as much of a problem as single use plastic.
Many people can’t afford a wood and bristle hair brush anyway…they’re like six times more expensive.

listen i love greta thunberg i really do like what an icon BUT i think it’s absolutely ridiculous that she, a literal child, is being made to be the face of stopping climate change. and she obviously thinks its ridiculous too. i’ve seen so many adults in power talking about how inspirational she is and everything, and then pretty much just stop there. it is EMBARRASSING that the 4.5 billion people over the age of 30 on earth right now are looking to one teenager to fix the problems they created. it’s not inspirational, it’s pathetic. Greta has to be so extremely aggravated with the amount of attention and lack of actual action from policymakers, because I sure am.
as a former pageant kid the amount of emotional abuse i went through because of my mother always pushing me to be beautiful and then blaming me and hating me when i didnt win was fucked up. being a pageant kid gave me an eating disorder and has seriously fucked with my self esteem. don’t put your kids through this. don’t let your 5 year old be objectified by others and yourself.
It’s not just the pageants though, it’s the culture of many parents to use their kids to show off. Instead of a pageant being a fun little thing where the kids dress up and look cute it’s a bitter competition that the parent is in to WIN or ELSE! Instead of a little league game being kids having fun doing sports it’s parents screaming at refs and coaches because their little angel didn’t the special treatment that they the parents…. I mean the kid deserved!
I reckon Your mother didn’t put you in it because it would be fun for you, because you wanted to dress up and be pretty, she did it for an ego trip. And that’s a terrible problem in too many parents and it goes beyond just pageants.
