People always complain about articles in German, but holy shit making sense of word order when conjunctions are involved is something I really, really don’t understand.
Been seeing a lot of stupid stuff lately about cow hobbles.
Hobbles in the dairy industry are meant to keep weak cows from falling and doing the splits after a difficult calving or on slippery surfaces. They aren’t a “punishment” (lmfao). They’re a therapeutic tool used until we know the animal isn’t going to fall and further injure themselves. That’s it.
Now let’s talk a little bit about the quality of animals BHB is putting out in the world.
So if you’ve been on Morph Market lately you’ll notice that BHB has been flooding the leopard gecko section with new animals for sale. If you’re not into leopard geckos this may not bother you as much as it bothers me BUT! The geckos he is selling are.. really low quality as far as morph expression goes. He is also pricing them SUPER CHEAP. Which is likely to affect the market and make things harder for the rest of us trying to do things the right way.
First let’s look at a really popular morph, white and yellow! WY geckos are characterized by high white sides, bright coloration, reduced pattern on the tail particularly, and paradox spots (though not every WY will have them).
Here’s one of BHB’s tangerine WYs on morph market right now (this is actually one of the nicer ones he has posted):
$250 is a very fair price for a tangerine WY. I feel like there are issues down the road if your average leopard gecko owner wants a WY and sees one for $60 vs one for $250. The REAL issue comes in when potential leopard gecko breeders buy one of BHB’s animals expecting it to be a breeder quality animal, when they definitely are not. (You also have to keep in mind that brian is notorious for not keeping track of genetics in his other reptile species, and for leopard geckos he’s not keeping the females separated so how is he tracking who lays what? Knowing the accurate genetic lineage of the animal is crucial when you want to breed them). When those folks start breeding bhb quality animals they’re going to be stuck with animals no one wants (because lets face it, the only reason bhb’s leopard geckos sell is because of the name attached to them). I want to see LESS low quality leopard geckos around, not more.
Okay let’s look at a different morph. A mack snow “bold stripe” (bold stripe in quotes because brian clearly has no idea bold stripe is.)
(source) Priced at $125 (which isn’t a bad price for an ACTUAL bold stripe, which this is not)
And here’s what a real bold stripe snow looks like:
(source) Priced at $300
I could do this for every morph he has for sale right now, but this post is getting long and I am getting tired. I hope this helps illustrate how frustrating bhb is on so many different levels.
God, one of my moms friends was so “impressed” that I got a “good cat on the first try” and I was like wtf u mean? And she was telling me how cool it was that he doesn’t scratch my furniture and that she’s adopted and returned so many kittens. So, after reeling from the thought of adopting and returning an animal because, emotionally, how the hell do you even do that, I find out she has nothing to stimulate the cats, or anything for them to scratch. I explain to her that cats have to scratch things, so you provide them with stuff and they channel their urges. They get bored so you provide them with perches and toys, etc. shes all like
“Wow you did your research”
God damn, yeah I googled animal care for five minutes. Fucking impressive, maybe stay the hell away from cats for a while, ma’am 🙄
