unironically though while I enjoy some tiktoks I find I would never recommend anyone get the app. it’s arguably more toxic than instagram when it comes to beauty standards. the amount of blatant pro ana shit flies over teenage girls’ heads just because the girl in the vid with an ED says “i’m healthy, I have a high metabolism”. this isn’t to say everyone underweight has an ED, but as someone whose dealt with anorexia before…I can tell which of you bitches aren’t ~naturally skinny~, sorry. it’s not even appearance alone, its behavior–heavy focus on an ‘ideal’ body image, body checking in front of the camera, replying only to hate comments about weight, etc–these are not things a healthy person does. filming yourself trying to fit your hand around different parts of your arm isn’t body positivity, nor is zooming the camera in on your ribs or collarbones.
and if this sounds like i’m saying women with EDs should be ashamed of themselves and never post online, you’re wrong. it’s about intent and how you present yourself. i’ve done what these pro ana girls do, I know how it looks !! a long while back on tumblr I actually posted a pic of myself when I was dealing with an ED where I deliberately stretched my arms in a way that made me look thinner and I LOVED when I got an ask saying I need to eat more. when you share these girls’ content, when you tell them to ignore concern and say they’re beautiful at their weight, you are killing them. stop being a fucking pussy and treating this shit as ‘body positivity’ or whatever. actually, try to stop commenting on their bodies at all. engaging in this content is what they want.
anywayzzz rant over for now. i’m just so, so angry about the way EDs are romanticized on social media, especially among young women.
