The western green mamba (Dendroaspis viridis) is a highly venomous species of mamba endemic to western Africa. They can grow to be over 7 feet long. Although mainly arboreal, they descend to ground level to hunt for prey like rodents and other small mammals. Their venom is a potent combination of neurotoxins, which destroy nerve tissue, cardiotoxins, which disrupt heart function, and fasciculins, which incapacitate the muscles.
