Last night Pittsburgh beat Nashville in the Stanley Cup Final.
It was a really interesting series in a lot of ways but mainly Tumblr took it INCREDIBLY FUCKING SERIOUSLY. There was a lot of hypocrisy on both ends to start off with.
People calling Crosby a dick on the ice (which, if what I’ve heard isn’t a gross stretch, is true, and he gets away with a lot), people calling the thing rigged, people being mad because of Nashville’s goalie chants, and so on. It was a fucking mess.
Anyway, I was fine thinking “people falsely demonizes Subban and Crosby might be a dick on the ice but he’s fine otherwise.”
And then of course I checked a non-hockey blog that has a lot of followers and people are saying that apparently people’s obsession with Nashville is bad.
According to the people on that blog, people would be calling Subban a dick if he were white. I’ve heard that people demonized Subban for things they let white people get away with off of Tumblr. Also apparently Nashville has a convicted sex offender and Pittsburgh has a black player who isn’t a dick.
Basically apparently there’s a million sides to a story and I don’t have enough information to know what to do with these contradictory accounts of the series.
Hockey is a fucking mess.
I don’t know what to think of teams and players anymore because this website has a nasty habit of fucking it all up so it’s no longer recognizable
What Sidney Crosby did to PK Subban tonight is unacceptable. As a player that’s had multiple concussions, Sid should know better than to push PK’s head down on the ice. It’s disgusting. But what the referee did in that situation was even worse.
There was obvious bias in that situation because the ref let the situation happen. He let Sidney Crosby push PK Subban’s head down to the ice repeatedly. He watched him do it. And instead of giving Nashville the power play, the ref gave matching minors for roughing, which was complete and utter bullshit.
And then there’s the water bottle thing. Whether Sid meant to do that or not, that should’ve been a delay of game penalty the moment the bottle was thrown on the ice. But, instead, the officials let Sid get away with it. That’s two incidents in one night that the officials let Sid get away with an obvious call.
This is why those of us who are non-Pens fans get mad. Yes, Sidney Crosby is an unbelievable player and is reportedly a great guy off the ice. But on the ice? He’s a piece of crap. And there are lots of players in this league who are awful on the ice. But those players don’t get away with as much as Sidney Crosby does. He deserves praise for his talents, but not for being a “calm, respectful player” like some reporters and fans might say. This is coming from someone who doesn’t hate Sidney Crosby. However, I hate the way he plays the game sometimes. The shit he gets away with is ridiculous.
And it’s not just Sid. Brad Marchand gets away with a lot, as does Corey Perry and Evgeni Malkin and Joe Thornton and every other big name you could possibly think of. But Sidney Crosby doesn’t just get away with a lot. He gets away with everything.
We’re all tired of Sid being made out to be some angel of a player on the ice, just like he’s an angel of a person off the ice. That’s not how this works. He has a different persona on the ice than he does off the ice. Just because he’s the “face of the NHL” and “the world’s best hockey player” doesn’t mean he should be let off the hook. And I don’t blame Sid for that. I blame the NHL for that.
you can hate sidney crosby for whatever reason you like, you can absolutely loathe his personality or his team or his fans or how the league treats him, but flat-out saying that sidney crosby is not an excellent hockey player skill-wise is um, wrong
apparently pk got in crosby’s face and said “i keep my promises” about what he said about winning the game and if that isn’t the most beautiful thing idk what is
