I don’t like reblogging posts with ‘gifted’ because sure the sentiment’s true enough for me but I don’t think “I didn’t know how to work hard when I was younger and I’ve never wanted to so I bullshitted my way through 11/13 years of school so far” counts as gifted. Also I just don’t really like that term, never have, always seemed off to me, but that’s a separate thing.

Tbh I never read Gifted Kid™ Angst as “I’m no longer special” but more like “I had unrealistically high academic expectations put upon me at a very young age and learned to measure my worth by academic success and as a consequence constantly feel as if I’m not good enough”
Also we never had to study or try very hard in earlier grades, so by the time we get to high school or college, our skills have plateaued and we have no study skills to fall back on whatsoever. We go from excelling with no effort to failing and having no idea how to catch up.
In school, we are told that we can’t write an essay over night for homework. Yet, we are expected to do it in an hour or two for an exam.
It gets funnier the earlier in the semester you reblog it
It’s literally my first day of classes and I’m already there
the american high school experience
- million-dollar gyms but bathroom stalls with no doors
- speaking of bathrooms, shit sayings on the walls, mostly along the lines of “fuck this shit”
- stressed out anxiety-prone teens running on 3 hours of sleep and a shit ton of coffee
- the Pacer
- teachers saying “this isn’t middle school anymore”
- broken air conditioning
- classrooms that either feel like the arctic tundra or the pits of hell
- “wikipedia isn’t a reliable source”
- a shit ton of standardized tests
- “if someone dies during the final, everyone gets an A, so who’s gonna take one for the team?”
- “if the teacher is fifteen minutes late we can leave.”
- jeopardy
- quizlet
- the cha-cha slide
- “mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell”
Although I’d actually much rather get in a fight with the “higher ups” or most of my “fellow students” then the teachers. I’d fight them, but I have less issue with them.
i feel like everyone has a teacher from high school that they’d 100% fight
