I hate that feeling when you try your hardest to get a good grade but you don’t get the material, then you get the test back and you did bad and you feel like all your effort was wasted
That post prompted a discussion in discord and I feel I need to share this with you all.
So, our school had OLD lockers- and our lockers never had their locks changed- so if someone had your locker the previous year? They could get in and take what they wanted. Because of this, I never kept anything valuable or useful in my locker- just junk. Notes I didn’t need anymore, etc.
However, I noticed that once a week, the junk in my locker was not the chaos I’d left it in- shit was rifled through. Some notes went missing, and while I didn’t care, it was proof that someone was visiting their old locker to help themselves.
So. I did what the gross, cynical hellhound I am was wont to do.
I started hoarding gross shit in my locker.
At first it was small things- old fruit, stale sandwiches. Then I upped the ante when I noticed some used- but still good- pens went missing. I started stowing my dirty, gross af black band socks in there. (I should mention, these socks hadn’t been washed ALL SEASON- lucky socks)
The socks were covered with notes and I graduated to old bones. They got scattered to the bottom of the locker. This asshole was PERSISTENT in their attempts to find something valuable left in my locker.
Finally, fed up with my shit being rifled through, I stowed a science project in there.
For anyone who knows me, I’m a microbiology major and enthusiast. I also am not afraid of getting my hands or my rep dirty in the pursuit of science.
My senior science project was growing bacteria and fungus. I got pig blood from a local butcher, and made some homemade agar. I… being overzealous and dumb as a teenager, decided BIGGER was better, and put it in a tupperware instead of a petri dish.
Teacher was all “I don’t EVEN wanna know how you made that, but bravo”
Anyway. I left it in my locker, precariously supported with a ruler and leaning against the door, the lid cracked open, so when the culprit opened the door, they’d have it fall on their face or on them, it didn’t matter.
idk if you’ve ever smelled a petri dish with active cultures/colonies, but it’s AWFUL. It’s GROSS.
They scribbled “WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU” on a note and shoved it halfway into a vent slot. So I’m guessing they got my surprise.
Do you ever think about the fact that the US has created and legitimized a system of institutionalized inequality by funding schools through property taxes? That basically a child’s education is only as good as the value of the property in their neighborhood. Funny how education is so often viewed as an equalizing factor when there is nothing equal about it.
I really don’t care if I’ve already reblogged this
Because this needs to be reblogged….
I remember learning this for the first time as an adult. I had grown up thinking education was the great playing field leveler. So I was so furious to find out how very much it wasn’t anything of the kind.
This is a big part of why you’ll often see rich white people fussing about school district lines, because they hate the idea that their money is going towards the education of poor children.
school is such a weird concept omg this is a place I should be so happy to be in and excited to go to but instead it’s just a place that makes me actually wish for natural disasters to occur so I don’t have to go like literally how fucked up is that
School shouldn’t make kids cry, or want to throw up, or not have the energy to get up in the morning.
Learning should be a privlege but the school system is so fucked up that kids groan when they hear the word school or learning. I have friends who have mental health disorders because of school. Someone seriously needs to change the school system.
