Following on the success of the live-action Beauty and the Beast, Disney is poised to showcase it’s second “gay moment” in this summer’s Cars 3. What’s more, they intend to do it with a familiar character.
That’s right! Josh Gad is set to reprise his winning turn as LeFou in Cars 3. Only this time, his character will be rebranded “LeCoupe” to better fit in the universe. This new character will feature in a new side plot as a newcomer to Radiator Springs who is looked after by Mater. Early reports suggest we will see a scene of the two male cars dancing together.
Yet Pixar head John Lasseter says series star Lightning McQueen may also get a new romantic subplot. “Sometimes McQueen is speed and sometimes he wants to kiss speed!” Lasseter stated. When questioned on how this romance would work between a car and a scalar quantity of physics, Lasseter replied cryptically “Only the Popemobile knows those secrets.” The inner workings of the Cars universe, it seems, will continue to elude us mere mortals.

One of my favorite scenes from Cars is when Lightning is pushing The King to the finish line and the crowd’s cheering and Fillmore says “there’s a lot of love out there, you know man?” And Sarge says “don’t embarrass me Fillmore”
