No one is talking about “I don’t think black people are realistic, though”. OP is talking about people who demand diversity and criticize a lack of diversity in media. The people whose only reviews are ever “2/10, too many white people” or “straight male protagonist should have been a lesbian”. Those people are annoying as hell.
No one gives a damn that Heimdall is black in Thor, it’s when people start demanding that characters be made to fit their ideas of “diversity” (which, since everyone defines diversity differently, is an impossible bar to reach) that we have problems.
Speaking as a writer, characters just come to me. They come to me in certain ways. Of the last 3 books, the protagonists were: white girl, Latina girl, Asian girl. That’s just how they came to me; I didn’t sit down and have a conversation with myself about whether my imagination was representative enough, I was just happy to be writing at all!
And I’m tired of people acting as though the stories I wrote would be diminished somehow if those characters had come to me as straight white dudes. Because that says that the only part of my writing they value is my ability to choose the color of a character’s skin.

Yes, that IS how they came to me, and frankly, it would feel weird to make them anything else. My characters are a certain way, I picture them a certain way, and I don’t feel the need to change them just to meet some arbitrary person’s idea of diversity. You’re free to make them afrolatino/a (y no puedes pronunciar “latinx”, en espanol) but there was nothing WRONG with an MC with two black parents.
And yes, my characters DO have different lived experience, and that means experience that extends beyond skin color, because not every black or Asian person has the same life. I’ll be happy to take your criticisms of my story when you’ve actually READ it.
Um why does this person think they get to say how a character did or didn’t come to you because they’re also a writer? Like I’m no writer but I’m pretty damn fucking sure it’s not a universal experience in any way shape or form. There are shared experiences just because of the nature of writing but character inspiration sure as shit isn’t one of them. I’m sure there are people who can say “I’m going to make a [insert group with low representation in general] character” and sit down and actually make a fully three dimensional character, but there are also people who absolutely can’t do that. My point is you don’t get to say that’s not how someone else’s inspiration works.
And as for Heimdal/Heimdall, there are definitely people upset about it but the point probably is in general that there really aren’t.
And representation is great but you can’t really say it’s “boring” because as has already been said, that’s exotifying skin color. White can be just as boring or just as interesting as black, because contrary to (Tumblr’s, if nothing else) popular belief, whether something is interesting or not isn’t predetermined by the groups representated in it.
Ultimately, forced representation is rarely good representation. Tokens are not good representation, and it’d be hard to avoid tokenism on a character when that character is forced. There’s also the fact that sometimes, for a story to be close to realistic, it won’t be very diverse. There are plenty of places in the world that are predominantly one thing or another and diversity just wouldn’t fit, and that’s fine.

Peterson has been talking about this trend and diagnosing it in academia for a long while. I’ve listened to many of his discussions and lectures and while he often takes postmodernist doctrine to its logical and absurd ends I doubt he thought he’d ever see them go after something like mathematics.
You’ll also notice this professor is not a mathematics professor but a math education professor. She’s someone who teaches educators how math should be taught. These are the fields the postmodernist / neo-marxists gravitate to. From these positions they wield influence, gatekeeping power and pursue these posts like any authoritarian would.. In Christianity, original sin is an equalizer. Everyone has it, no matter who you are. Whether you’re a billionare or a hobo, a criminal or a saint, regardless of your background, regardless of your race or ethnicity, regardless of who your parents were, everyone is born with original sin. No one is inherently better or worse than anyone else in a sacred sense; we’re all sinners. So don’t be too quick to look down on others, because you’re a sinner too.
In the Cult of Progressivism, it’s a divider. If you’re white, you’re bad: always, automatically, without fail. If you’re white, you are guilty of the sins of every other white person who ever lived…but only if you’re white. If you’re a POC, you’re not guilty of the sins of other POC’s; you’re credited for their accomplishments. (Unless you’re a POC and point out that this is bullshit, in which case you’re “mentally white” and also guilty of white original sin.)
Moreover, in Christianity, just as everyone has original sin, anyone can be cleansed of it. Becoming a Christian cleanses you of your original sin and you are credited with Christ’s virtue.

The result of this bullshit is that we are raising a generation of non-white kids who are being taught to hate white kids and a generation of white kids who are being taught to hate themselves, with the OP as an excellent example of this.

The problem with Europe’s racism is that a lot of Europe pretends to be less racist than it actually is and doesn’t actually acknowledge it. And I’m not saying that’s not a problem in the states, I’m sure it is, but really. Hidden racism is just as bad as blatantly obvious racism.
Using the word race isn’t fucking fascist unless you’re attaching worth to race. The fact that the US/North America uses the word race at all is not the cause of our racism. That’s ridiculous. Claiming you’re better than another race when that’s completely and utterly scientifically false is the cause of racism. Case closed.
