I want the world to understand computers don’t just do things, they only do what the user tells them to do.

“Digital art is cheating! The computer does it!” No, the user painted it.

“Digital music isn’t real! The computer makes it!” No, the user composed it.

“I don’t know what happened. The computer just started acting weird on its own.” NO, YOU’VE BEEN CLICKING ADS AGAIN, MOM.

That last one, tho. That’s my mom.

I don’t remember where I got this quote from or if it’s original or something but it really describes my experience with computers as a CS major. “The nice thing about programming is the computer does exactly what you tell it to. The hard thing is that it does EXACTLY what you tell it to.”

This is actually a known thing. Having to explain something to someone else0 even an inanimate someone- causes the logic lines to travel through your brain differently, and what was an impenetrable block from the perspective of trying to do it may suddenly become easily defeated from the perspective of teaching/explaining it.
