Someone: “I want a cat/rabbit/other animal that will be super openly affectionate, go for walks, play fetch, not mind being handled rough, never be shy, and also I don’t want it to claw me or the furniture(so I’ll probably get it declawed) and I don’t want to ever clean a litter box or cage.”
Me: “Hey there’s this great new type of animal you might be interested in:”
Someone: “I want a dog but I don’t ever want to take it for walks or exercise it very much or let it outside and I want it to be fine with being left alone for longer periods of time and also never bark.”
Me:
Someone: “I want a cat or dog but I want to only feed it a vegan diet.”
Me:
Someone: “I want to have a pet but I basically never want to interact with it.”
Me:
Someone: “I want to get my kid a cute pet for Easter/Christmas!”
Me:
Get a pet that fits your needs. Don’t get a pet then try to force it to fit your lifestyle. Just because you saw a person walking a rabbit once doesn’t mean you can expect a rabbit to just be a dog. Just get a dog!
If a cat or dog is eating vegan meals, they’re doing it out of their own free will, just saying. Give a dog a piece of Tofu turkey and they eat it, i didn’t force them to eat it, so.
Give a dog anti freeze and they’ll eat it. Feed a dog rat poison and they’ll eat it. Give a dog grapes, nuts, chocolate, beer, etc. They’ll eat it. They don’t know that it’s dangerous for them. As their caretaker you are responsible for knowing better, not them. If you deprive your cats or dogs of meat, especially cats, you are actively killing your companion in the slowest way.
I once adopted a kitten who was being systematically starved by his previous human who insisted in feeding him vegan food. He was so excited when he got meat-based cat food from us that he gorged himself until he puked. He was left with digestive tract issues for years because of his previous human’s neglect. Do not do this. I don’t care what you believe in personally – cats are carnivores (not omnivores), depriving them from meat is cruel and animal abuse.
Dogs are not omnivores, they are opportunistic carnivores. They cannot thrive on a vegan diet. The only time a dog should be vegan is on a monitored veterinarian diet due to severe food allergies and their quality of life is already affected.
Here, have fun reading these as you putter down your lane of ignorance
A one off instance of a dog living two decades on a vegan diet does not mean vegan diets are healthy for dogs. Everyone probably knows of a person who lived to be 90 despite smoking cigarettes daily. In fact, the oldest actual dog who lived over 2 years longer than Bramblewas Bluey, who ate a raw diet of Kangaroo and Emu. Dogs are facultative carnivores do not have the anatomical and physiological adaptations to thrive on plant based diets. If you feel your dog is thriving on a plant based diet you probably have not seen a dog on a raw or high quality canned/kibble diet that’s actually thriving.
The teeth are different because humans ate different forms of prey and caught them differently. A tiger needs its teeth to hold onto struggling prey, while humans have more usable limbs.
also CATS CANNOT BE VEGAN THEY ARE OBLIGATE CARNIVORES AND IF YOU MAKE THEM LIVE ON PLANTS YOU WILL FORCE THEM TO GO BLIND AND DIE FOR THE SAKE OF SHOWING HOW MUCH YOU CARE ABOUT ANIMALS
CATS CANNOT BE VEGAN
CATS
CANNOT
BE
VEGAN
Jesus Christ, yeah no, cats can never be vegetarian or vegan jesus goddamn motherfucker.
CATS NEED TAURINE
CATS NEED TAURINE FROM MEAT PROTEINS
DO NOT MAKE YOUR CAT EAT A VEGETARIAN/VEGAN DIET
Cannot reblog this enough.
Cats can not produce the amino acid taurine in their bodies. They must get it from their diet, or they will go blind and die, slowly and horribly.
You have the ability and the right to choose a vegan or vegetarian life style and people should respect that choice.
Your pet does not have that ability, and can not make that choice. Please do not force it on them, any more than you would allow someone to force a diet not of your choosing on you.
If you find it morally objectionable to feed your pets food containing animal products, then perhaps you should consider choosing an herbivorous pet such as a rabbit or other small rodent. For the same reason I can’t keep snakes, even though I think they’re beautiful, because I can not handle their diet, if you can not handle feeding your cat animal products, you should find it a home with someone who can.
Extremist idiots who twist and turn facts to support their stupid extremist visions are idiots. Specially because they make real people who support the ethical treatment of animals look like nutjobs.
No, they do not understand the risks. Your cat is NOT capable of weighing the risks when she walks out the door. She is not capable of calculating for herself whether or not she wants to chance being hit by a car, attacked by a dog or other predator, or work out whether or not some food left outside is poisoned. She doesn’t keep track of how much wildlife she kills. She walks outside and free roams because YOU decided the risks didn’t matter – NOT your cat. She does not understand that “freedoms get taken away” if she’s outside too long or whatever your fake rule system for her is. She is a CAT. All she knows is that she wants to go outside and that you let her do it.
The only way a cat really learns about the risk of a road is the hard way – by getting fucking run over. Even if cats were capable of understanding when is a safe time to cross and how fast cars usually drive, there are assholes who intentionally swerve and speed to run over cats.
I don’t think you know what “substantial” means. Substantial means your cat has a considerablely large imapct on wildlife, which is exactly what she does have. No, the animals aren’t looking over their shoulders to watch for your particular cat. Your cat is an invasive predator and they are not evolved or adapted to avoiding cats.
You are an irresponsible owner and you need to stop overestimating the mental abilities of your cat and throwing her out into danger just because she meows at the door.
