You still couldn’t self diagnosis with a personality disorder.
Please use a disorder you can actually have at your age.
Thanks. This has been a PSA.
sigh
here is a screenshot of the actual dsm-v stating that personality disorders other than aspd can be diagnosed in people under the age of 18. if you’re gonna kiss psychiatry’s ass at least get your facts straight
It’s not diagnosed except in extreme circumstances.
“…in those RELATIVELY UNUSUAL circumstances in which the individual’s particular maladaptive personality traits appear to be pervasive, persistent, and unlikely to be limited to a particular developmental stage.”
Personality disorders are usually not diagnosed in teens because teens are changing. One year for a teenager is quite a bit of change, usually, so it’d be reasonable to expect that by that point a professional could say that it’s not going anywhere. Soon, at least.
Obviously no statistics are presented, but given the phrase “relatively unusual” it’s logical to assume that these are very extreme circumstances.
The chances that a professional would diagnose someone below 18 with a personality disorder are incredibly low.
So basically, no, they’re so rarely diagnosed in teens that it’s the exception, not the rule.
The other problem is that personality disorders are already rare. Teens are usually diagnosed with some other disorder because, you know, they’re teens. The chances they will change are relatively high.
I think I might do a bit of research into disorders you can have as a minor similar to PDs and make a post about it.
Because self diagnosis makes me mad but self diagnosis with a PD makes me more mad.
