You know what really gets me every time I rewatch the Over the Garden Wall finale? The extended pause when the Woodsman and his daughter reunite. You would expect them both to run to each other right away, embrace, bawling, but they don’t. The Woodsman stands incredulous, like he’s hardly daring to hope what he’s seeing is real, and Anna (his daughter) silently weeps tears of joy. The way she steadily relaxes the longer she sees him-like she’s calming, finally at peace after being separated from him for so long. It’s like the world of the Unknown, is, in that moment, taking a relaxed sigh as all is finally well.
