Who wants to go to Chicago with me to Garfield Park Conservatory see the 25+ ft bloom stalk on their Agave americana that they have now literally had to remove glass roof tiles to allow to grow through the top of the conservatory?
Look at how utterly ridiculous this bloom is going to be. Agave are related to asparagus so right now yeah it just looks like a very very tall asparagus
I was going to say I’ve never seen an agave that tall– but then I remembered that it’s so much more humid in Chicago than Arizona. She’s just going wild with all the water out there!
If, like me, this is your first time hearing about this and you wanna know more
The greenbottle blue tarantula (Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens), native to Venezuela, has some of the most dramatic coloring of any spider species.
Adult greenbottles have metallic blue legs, a blue-green carapace and a vibrant orange abdomen. In the wild, these tarantulas live in webbed burrows under bushes and tree roots in desert areas. (xxxxxxxx)
Accurate as shit. Also, have this from an old vet nursing text book:
Pit mommies be like “some dog breeds are more violent than others, but owners are the problem!”
Not to be racist but
Also not to be racist, but if you look at who owns pit Bulls vs. Other breeds of dogs…
I worked with animals and I noticed that a lot of pit owners were… of a group that doesn’t take great care of their animals to begin with.
Yeah, they’re very popular within certain subcultures that have huge problems with violence and criminality. They’re trained to attack and be violent. I’m not shocked this is the result. Still, typically only between 30 and 50 people die a year to dog attacks in the US. Considering the number of pits and pit mixes there are I don’t think we’re talking about some major issue here.
Young wannabe-tough guys like to own dogs they can’t handle just to look cool. Of course they won’t bother training them because they are just an accessory to appear tough. Sadly this fact barely gets mentioned when the topic of combat dogs being dangerous is discussed. Pit Bulls and similar breeds can be the sweetest things if you actually raise them properly. I know quite a few lovely combat dogs from my walks and one is a Pit Bull. Quite a cuddly guy named Arco who’s just a big softie.
Similar problem exist with Chihuahuas. People often don’t bother training them properly due to the “she’s so small I can just pull her back on her leash” mentality.
So yeah, whatever dog you get, if you train them properly you can turn every breed into a softie. However, certain breeds DO demand a bit of a dog experience to handle them properly so getting yourself a combat dog as your first dog probably isn’t that good of an idea.
Another thing is that those statistics can’t always be trusted. A lot of dogs are easily misidentified as a pit when in reality they’re a boxer, American bulldog, etc.
