what are some obscure websites you liked as a kid?

when i was little i really loved mycathatesyou.com because it showed pictures of cats lmao

i also liked miniclip.com and primarygames.com and while miniclip wasn’t too obscure i never hear anyone talk about it anymore. primarygames was just another place to play miniclip games and fish tycoon

oh, and since it was the 2000’s and screamers were a Fun Thing To Do i liked albinoblacksheep.com and winterrowd.com, home of the infamous scary maze game (obvious warning, none of the links on winterrowd are safe and i highly suggest staying away from it)

I don’t know if anyone else used/uses (it’s still around) sploder.com but one time I got demoted to POW (sploder uses military ranks) on the forums because I wanted to see what being a POW was like so I made and alt to get in trouble on and if I remember correctly making alts was a punishable offense so I got demoted on my actual account. I remember being so upset by it at first but I don’t remember much of my week in internet jail other than I don’t think it was that bad lol.

Also on the topic of Sploder’s ranks, I had a friend on Sploder who got promoted from private to soldier and I got so upset over it that I left the website.. which is kind of a shame, but oh well. Probably would’ve left eventually anyway. I ended up apologizing to said friend probably years later which is funny because I don’t think I ever said anything to them, but oh well. (Me being jealous of that person wasn’t really rare, they got a lot of attention for their games. Which is really childish because I never put any legitimate effort into making games and also I spent 99.9% of my time on the forums anyway so)

I also remember that people saw me as male on Sploder and I just never really cared to correct them but when I told one of my Sploder friends that I was actually Not Male I made such a big deal out of it for some reason.

my personal theory is that the people who started the idea that interns run corporate social media accounts was the corporations themselves so that even people who hate companies would be subject to sympathy for the accounts. it adds more humanity to them and it is absolutely evil

Like does anyone honestly believe major brands trust some of their most visible PR to random interns? Sure a local business will often just let a savvy kid run their social media, but fucking like Wendys and Sunny D are not letting Britney the 20 year old intern handle what amount to multiple daily press releases.

Exactly. Social media is just another form of advertising. Large companies spend millions on advertising and that includes social media.

Everything from their social media account acting in character right as a new product comes out to their characters getting into ‘wars’ with other companies is highly calculated, tracked and used to measure current trends.
