this is your friendly reminder that although social media is popular and everyone seems to have it, you shouldn’t feel pressured to keep up and you don’t have to be there for everything. it’s okay if you just watch youtube videos and tik toks and to delete instagram whenever it bores you or makes you feel insecure or anxious. there’s a world out there you’re allowed to experience without being part of this online culture.
since there’s frequently confusion about the social acceptability of overt ableism against autistic people in comparison to other disabilities, i would like to remind everyone:
“no one would tell a person with [different disability] [something ableist]” is a false statement
wheelchair users are questioned if they really need their chairs all the time. including when they try to get their healthcare system to pay for a wheelchair for them, because few chair users can otherwise afford a chair that meets all of their needs.
the prevalence of inaccessible buildings and of refusal to update older buildings (why is there not a dedicated government fund for this in my country??) is the world telling wheelchair users not to use wheelchairs because it’s ♪inconvenient♪.
people with service dogs experience discrimination in public places all the time, including in the form of random strangers trying to pet or play with their dogs who should not be distracted.
d/Deaf people are frequently told not to sign, many hearing doctors tell parents of deaf babies not to teach sign and to only teach lipreading and speech. d/Deaf people who use phone relay services get their calls rejected all the time, because the pizza place doesn’t want to take an order from a d/Deaf person who is typing words that the relay operator is speaking.
cane users get pushed and shoved in crowded spaces. mobility aid users are hardly ever given adequate space to maneuver in crowds. people will grab mobility aids without the user’s consent.
when a mobility aid user is arrested, they are frequently separated from their mobility aid. when a d/Deaf person is arrested, if they’re handcuffed, they can’t communicate as effectively in a signed language. i don’t know if service dog users are separated from their dogs when arrested but i absolutely would not be surprised if it happens. i don’t know about whether a blind person will be separated from their white cane when arrested but i have no reason to believe that cops wouldn’t confiscate it.
the above are all counterexamples to the idea that no one would do something to a non-autistic disabled person comparable to or more violent than forcing an autistic person not to stim.
it doesn’t strengthen the argument for autistic liberation to pretend that autistic people are the only group that suffers from the type of ableist discrimination of “why can’t you just be less obviously different?”

The right to not be coerced into sterilizing yourself in order to gain citizenship, relief from imprisonment, change a gender marker, etc.
The right to determine how you will give birth

These need so much attention since poc are typically the targets of these. I feel like women of color historically have been the biggest victims of these. And still are.
reminder that when change.org asks you to “chip in’ after you’ve signed a petition, that money does NOT go to the petition organizer or any related fundraiser. change.org uses misleading language like this to trick you into paying them. they’re a for-profit corporation. don’t give them your money, send what you can to verified bail funds / gofundme campaigns / etc. instead
i kind of resent the way people have elevated bees to a near-mythical level of importance while ignoring every other bug. like…. if you think bees are important wait till you learn about…….. all the other insects……..

as a general rule. if what we’re calling ‘cultural appropriation’ sounds like nazi ideology (i.e. ‘white people should only do white people things and black people should only do black people things’) with progressive language, we are performing a very very poor application of what ‘cultural appropriation’ means. this is troublingly popular in the blogosphere right now and i think we all need to be more critical of what it is we may be saying or implying, even unintentionally.
There is nothing wrong with everyone enjoying each other’s cultures so long as those cultures have been shared.
Eating Chinese food, watching Bollywood movies, going to see Cambodian dancers, or learning to speak Korean so you can watch every K drama in existence is totally fine. The invitation to participate in those things came from within those cultures. The Mexican family that owns the place where I get fajitas wants me to eat fajitas. Their whole business model kind of depends on it, actually.
If you see something from another culture you think you might want to participate in, but you don’t know if that would be disrespectful or appropriative, you can just…ask. Like. A Jewish friend explained what a mezuzah was to me, recently. (It’s the little scroll-thing near their front doors that they touch when they come into their house. It basically means “this is a Jewish household.”)

“You can touch it or you can not touch it,” she said. “I don’t care.”

I think it’s amazing that fans have come to Chris Evans’s defense re: the whole accidental nude leak situation. I love seeing fans not only discourage sharing and searching his nudes, but actively posting other photos of the actor to quickly drown the nudes out.
But I want to highlight one thing. Because I see a lot of people exclaiming over how he’s a great person who doesn’t deserve this.
Yes, it’s true that Chris Evans is by all accounts a great person. However. Being a great person is not the reason he “doesn’t deserve” to have his photos shared without his permission. The reason he doesn’t deserve that is he is a human being and deserves the basic respect of not being violated and objectified.
Even if he was just an average okay person, hell…even if he was an objectively bad person, he would still deserve to be given this incredibly basic level of consideration and respect.
So like. This is good! Defend him. Discourage searching and sharing of his nudes.
But do it for everyone who finds themselves in a similar situation, now and always. Because it’s not the Chris Evans of it all that matters here. It’s that this is a human being who deserves our basic respect, just like every single actor before him whose nudes have ended up online.
its because schools are so caught up in violating students every rights to privacy that they are blatently disregarding thoes same kids safety. zoom allowes you to track eye movements. mousepad/mouse movemenst. the browser activitiy of the user. its horrifying and dare i fucking say litteral motherfucking spyware. its not a app its a fucking virus.
its so horrifically easy to guess every facet of zoom that im guessing that schools just looked at the violation features and took them in without a second throught or trial. they disregard better functioning programs like discord because they are horrified that thoes programs would give students a sliver of privacy
their instistance on using zoom is a very clear direct cause of schools horrific obsession with micromanageing every single facet of a students life.

If you have to use Zoom, your best bet is to run it from the browser. The Zoom website will try to get you to use the app, but if you keep declining that, it will use its browser-based interface. Since browsers have much better security, they’re unable to do any kind of persistent monitoring and have almost no access to system activities. When you close the tab, you can be assured that it isn’t running.
If you live in cali or oregon or even washington PLEASE STAY INSIDE and if you can’t or have to go out for any reason please wear two masks layered on top of each other outside. If your house has air conditioning you should be able to turn it on because of filters, if you don’t have ac (or have bad filters in your ac) keep everything closed and if needed wear a mask in doors if you can’t leave all together. All of you stay safe and if any of you fuckers think it’s funny to start more fires I hope God comes and reaps your ass because people are dying and homes are being Destoryed. We don’t need anymore problems here.
Guys this is really serious. When ppl say don’t go outside we MEAN it. For some fucking reason jobs haven’t been put on standstill so again wear at least two masks to filter out the smoke if you don’t have a kn95 mask which was made for filtering smoke (online right now they seem to be sold out, if anyone has links to some please share)
