If you’re getting to the point where you’re debating the canon validity of a headcanon in anything other than good fun, you’re in too deep and need to log off, go outside, and remember that it is in fact a work of fiction and just not that big a deal.

I think as a culture we have all forgotten that fandom is supposed to be fun.

It’s not that serious.

It was never supposed to be that serious.

Especially since most of the drama and hurt revolves around shipping.

All of the ships are fictional. Being canon doesn’t actually negate the fact that the ship isn’t real.

No ship, or any aspect of a fictional universe, is important enough to treat another real life human being badly.

Fandom has gotten very…proprietary over the years and now is a good time as any to remind y’all that you don’t own the source material.

Creators are under no obligation to make your ship canon, redeem your problematic fav, or write their characters in a way that lines up with your headcanons.

You are playing in someone else’s sandbox, so don’t get your tailfeathers twisted when the creators don’t drop their plans for their product to conform to fandom demands.

You can’t expect the website to cater to the content you want to see. There is going to be content created for your fandom that you aren’t going to like. NSFW (unfortunately), a ship you hate, whatever. There’s no possible way to only make content everyone enjoys and you just have to accept that.

do you ever want 95% of a fandom to shut the fuck up

I started looking thru the tags/comments because I was curious to see how many people tagged the jjba fandom (surprisingly none) and then started taking a tally of the most popular fandoms that people want to shut the fuck up:

As of 17,186 notes here are the top specifically mentioned fandoms that people want to shut the fuck up:

  1. Voltron:  66
  2. Steven Universe:  39
  3. Yuri on Ice:  15
  4. Sherlock and Undertale are tied at 13
  5. Hamilton: 11
  6. Supernatural: 10
  7. RWBY: 8
  8. The Adventure Zone, Phandom, and Homestuck are tied at 7
  9. Dr. Who and Overwatch are tied at 6
  10. Kpop in general: 5

I dunno what the voltron fandom did but holy fuck lol

anti-sjwfeminism:

Tumblr lgbt and shipping culture is so repulsive. People go out of their way to state that every character they like is gay/lesbian/trans and spew hate at anyone who says otherwise. They despise heterosexual relationships and so all characters have to be gay and lesbian, and then the men have to be trans too so it’s not just ‘’Cis Gay White Men’’. And one of them also has to be race-bent as being black just to even it all out and that every single minority is represented and basically is nothing like their original character at all. If you disagree with them and tell them that that character is in fact straight, they’ll get so offended because they’re gay and they ‘’headcanon’’ this character as gay too and you’re basically a homophobe if you say this character isn’t gay. They are offended over people telling them their little imaginary headcanons aren’t real.

*looking at the SU and Voltron fandom in particular*
