People who ruin fandoms…

idiotgangleader:

1. The Headcanon Police. The ones who freak out over someone’s interpretation of a character and then go out of their way to harass them. Even if it’s something completely miniscule.

2. The Erasure Police. The ones that jump through hoops to turn every little think into an erasure issue. Known for harassing fan art artists and fanfiction writers for creating content they think “erases” a character’s quality and therefore the penalty is getting bullied off of the internet.

3. The Shipping Police. The ones who are “don’t look at me, don’t follow me, don’t talk to me, don’t even breathe in my general direction if you ship (insert ship here)!!!!!” Oddly enough these are usually the ones that will go on anon and harass those that do ship the forbidden pairing. Can also be a hybrid from the Erasure Police.

Fandoms should not be a place where people’s ideas are censored. Be nice, don’t be an ass. Don’t be one of the Fandom Police.

lady–of–fandoms:

You still can call yourself a “fan”, even if you

  • have not watched every single episode
  • disagree with the choice of a character
  • do not follow the actors/actresses on social media
  • have not read the original book/comic
  • do not spend all your money on merchandise
  • do not know every single background info

I wonder how many people on here that have reblogged those “I treat retail workers/public service workers with RESPECT because I’m not HUMAN GARBAGE” type posts have also endorsed or straight up taken part in sending death threats/suicide bait/unrelenting harassment to the people that make their media

#The Discourse™#you can’t have it both ways#you don’t get to make fun of baby boomers for Wanting To See The Manager#and then encourage members of your fandom to tell an actor/writer/artist that they’re scum on a massive scale#because idk they won’t validate your ship or ‘ruined your childhood’ or whatever the fuck#get over yourselves like goddamn (tags via @shesgonnachangetheworld)

im loving seeing more people compare fan entitlement to customer entitlement because it’s exactly that

shipwhateveryouwant:

the FBI really has to deal with a big influx of false reports from angry teenagers about a goddamn fanfiction website

a fanfiction website

these people’s job is to catch actual real child rapists and stop the distribution of actual real cp. fucking imagine having that be your job, what an incredible mental and emotional toll that must take on a person to deal with things like that every day

and they’re going to have to take time out of their incredibly difficult, incredibly important jobs to investigate false reports maybe by the dozens, or more, because some shitty blogging website has a shitty little subculture where it’s suddenly trendy to report a fanfiction website to the FBI

A FANFICTION!!!!! WEBSITE!!!!

hobrien:

do you ever see someone’s comment about a film/tv show you watch or a book you’ve read and wonder if maybe we all truly live in different realities and the internet is the only commonly shared space which doesn’t change across universes, because it isn’t fucking possible to draw such dumbass conclusions about a thing unless we’ve seen/read different versions of it

aijack:

say it with me

  • liking a character ≠ condoning their actions
  • understanding a character ≠ condoning their actions
  • relating to a character ≠ condoning their actions

never assume that only because someone likes/understands/relates to a character that they see this character as “perfect” and don’t recognise their flaws
