A good hot take on the kid hating trend that’s being pushed more and more in every community.

Surprising news to no one
Don’t be a “respect is earned not given” kind of person
Be a “respect is given unless proven undeserved” kind of person
I guess what bothers me about the representation thing is that people really only focus on one thing, when in reality people are a bit more complex than that.
Like for me. I was a black kid, but I was also a disabled kid, and that aspect of me affected my life more than anything. I can safely say that back in the 1990s there were a lot more black figures to look up to than disabled ones.
Oddly, Superman was one of my favorite heroes growing up, particularly his DCAU counterpart, because of the fact that he was physically different from most people and had to take that into account, just like I did. I mean… I wasn’t like immune to gunshots or anything. But the fact that you were different and had to live differently as a result.
I guess what I’m trying to get at is that kids can find themselves in any sort of character, depending on their circumstances. If anything, I think that maybe some should be thinking about the inverse–how like more privileged children can see themselves in Black Panther maybe? Not entirely familiar with BP outside of him being like super rich and being the head of his own country.
Basically it feels like people argue about representation for kids as if the only way a kid (or anyone else for that matter) can only resonate with a person if they share some sort of physical, visual similarity.
I guess what I’m looking for is less representation and more… resonance.
Hmm… resonance. Has a nice ring to it.

do u ever remember all the horrible offensve things u said when u were like 15 and u literally feel ur soul detach and turn 2 dust
your fave is problematic: yourself
Basically, yeah. That’s kind of the point – you always have to look back on yourself and be mortified and resolve to be better.
Shit, the stuff I said just five YEARS ago (and I’m almost 33) makes me cringe like a motherfucker.
Burn in mortification. Rise from the ashes and be better. Lather, rinse, repeat for the rest of your life.
This is why purity culture doesn’t work!!! We’re all shit! We can all grow and do better!
I saw a post that was like “kill yourself if you think forced diversity is bad” like do they not understand the “forced” part of it??? It’s forced, it’s there for no real reason other than to fake representation and make one look good. It’s bad.
I am now imagining a trio of dysfunctional vampires or immortals or something. And 2-300 years later, one of them is still That Fucking Guy.
it’s not technology, buddy, it’s just that no one agrees with your entitlement to their attention
HEYO
Just a quick reminder: A good prank or april fools joke does not
– intentionally trigger someone
– cause panic attacks
– take advantage of someone’s mental illness or neurodivergence (for example, of their inability to tell blatant lies from truth)
– involve a real risk of someone getting injured
– involve a real risk of someone getting traumatized
Be funny. Don’t be an asshole.
Furthermore, a good April Fools prank does not:
– cause property damage or otherwise cost the victims or a third party money they didn’t agree to pay
Girls who say stuff like “all men are pigs” and guys who say stuff like “all girls are hoes” are so boring.
