This is not a medical-grade mask, and not worn to protect myself. This is a bandana tied over my face to reduce the amount of air droplets released when I speak and breathe. At this point I think it is most reasonable to behave as though you are already infected even if asymptomatic.

they think that part of the reason (just part) Taiwan has managed to keep cases so low is mandatory masks. Of course, they are used to wearing mask and quickly stopped exporting them to maintain supply. The reasoning isn’t that the mask protects the wearer, but the mask protects others from the wearer so that asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic individuals don’t spread their respiratory droplets as easily. This is good practice IMO as long as you aren’t touching your mask/face and wash your hands as soon as you remove the mask.
Yeah. It may not protect you, but it’s comparable to sneezing into your elbow or into a tissue instead of openly into the air. I’m washing my makeshift masks as soon as I get home. I think if we’re going out and about for any reason we should be covering our faces as much as possible to cut down on air and surface contamination and discourage us from touching our faces.

Yeah absolutely the current death rate is 2% out of all the people who are diagnosed with the virus. That means the other 98% of the people who get infected recover and are just fine. (So this image isn’t an acurate statistic but whatever) It’s mostly dangerous for elderly people, people who work in healthcare and people with pre-existing health issues.
So no need to panic, just wash your hands and cover your mouth when your sneeze or cough.
