Fun fact: the guys at our college’s geology department prop out the doors with their samples. I totally understand why but as someone whose work with samples is necessarily super delicate and sterile it fucks me up so bad
lol idk if you watch nautilus live at all but watching them process bio & geo samples side by side evokes exactly this Thing (the descriptions are gold too… “here are the 30 steps we use to preserve bio samples, and as for rocks, well, we let them dry, bag them, & put them in the Rock Box)

in my own experience with geology most precautions with samples are to preserve the life and safety of the geologist, most of the rocks are fine.
i am continually reminded of one of my colleagues, who wanted to collect a sample of gypsum on a field excursion but was too lazy to take off his backpack and get his rock hammer. so he said “eh, it’s soft enough” just fucking punched the rock until a piece fell off like it was fucking minecraft

Everyone else is less excited because this was taken crack of dawn; when blonde lady realized how close the whales were coming, she ran around waking everybody up to see it.

Hey. I live right down the street from this and theyre looking to turn it into a facility for veterans. Theres unfortunately some backlash from the surrounding community, and its hard to see from the pictures but the building sits next to a neighborhood. Its also across the street from an elementary school.
Some people in the neighborhoods are UPSET that this facility will be offering mental health care for veterans. Theyre upset that mentally ill people are going to be coming and going near a school. Most of this is being voiced on the neighborhood forums so I dont have links for it, apologies.
The nonprofit that is leasing the space for their project still needs donations because the building is vandalized on the inside. Mostly from kids from the surrounding neighborhoods breaking into it. Which I know because I went to school with them. Anyways. Good news, this space is being used to help people who need it. Bad news, people are ableist assholes.
yall ever read a fact that just fucks up your whole world? let me tell you about mine. fact: you can very easily slip a lightbulb in your mouth, but it is impossible to remove it without breaking either the lightbulb or your jaw. this has ruined my life. i can not fucking see an old style lightbuble without thinking about how i could shove that baby right in my maw easy as pie. the inclination to do so is fucking insatiable. i feel like rapunzel’s mom and the rampion garden. a quest i know will result in terrible fate but my mind wants to do it so badly just to play out the awful scenario that would undoubtedly unfold before me. this is the true symbol of temptation. a lightbulb.
