this post will be updated as I find more websites to add! please check with the original before reblogging to see if there’s an updated version, and message me with more suggestions if you have them!!

for general use

  • myspace.com – yes, it still exists, i’m just as surprised as you
  • soup.io – very similar to tumblr, plus it can import your tumblr blog
  • twitter.com – allows posting both text and photos in sets, allows retweets

geared towards writers and bloggers

geared towards artists and photographers

  • deviantart.com – huge community, allows posting art + sorting into folders
  • furaffinity.net – similar to DA but for furries, easy to display commish info
  • instagram.com – photo and video posts, excellent tag search
  • piczel.tv – allows both streaming and posting art / photosets to a gallery
  • pixiv.net – huge anime art community, allows livestreaming

paid platforms

  • patreon.com – subscription-based access to many diff types of content
  • pillowfort.io – still in beta, but should function almost identically to tumblr
  • typepad.com – similar to wordpress but with reblogging and a dash

ways to save your current tumblr posts

  • use the wayback machine! you do have to archive each page of your blog individually but once you do all the content, including media, will be saved exactly as it was at the moment you archived it.

  • wordpress and soup both allow you to directly import whole tumblr blogs, and if i recall correctly it’s something both dreamwidth and pillowfort have said they are working on.

  • if you have some knowledge of computers you can try this github solution which uses a python script to download your whole blog to your computer.
even if you don’t know anything about programming or the command line

they give a very good beginners tutorial on how to use it so you should still give it a shot!

No-Shave November

vivairi:

In the spirit of the eleventh month of the year, as well as the famous cancer awareness movement that comes with it–and because it would be uncomfortable for me to go without shaving my legs and underarms for more than four days–I have decided to make a post to spread awareness about cancer in men instead.

Did you know?

  • Cancer mortality is higher among men than women (196.8 per 100,000 men and 139.6 per 100,000 women).
  • In 2018 alone, there have been 1,276,106 new cases of prostate cancer  worldwide.
  • Prostate cancer incidents are most common in Australia and New Zealand, followed by Northern Europe, Western Europe, and North America, respectively.
  • Mortality rates due to prostate cancer are highest in Southern Africa, followed by the Caribbean, Middle Africa, and Polynesia, respectively.
  • Approximately 0.4 percent of men will be diagnosed with testicular cancer at some point during their lifetime.
  • The number of new cases in testicular cancer have increased in the United States since 1975.
  • In 2018, it is estimated that there will be 9,310 new cases of testicular cancer and an estimated 400 people will die of this disease.
  • The percent of new cases is the highest in young men aged 20-34–over half of the new cases of testicular cancer are in this age group. This is also the age groups where the most deaths occur from testicular cancer.

How can you help?

The following are charities all focused on prostate and testicular cancer:

Additionally, if you don’t want to shave or your company or school has a strict dress code about excess hair, you can support someone who’s participating in No-Shave November as well!
