As someone not involved in the development of pillowfort but am a web developer, I think you should lower your expectations, but not for the reason you think.
Pillowfort is a baby. A newborn. A smol bab. If you were here during the early days of Tumblr, think of that.
Pillowfort simply cannot be the immediate solution to your woes. It needs to be nurtured and cared for to become a mature and happy adult.
If you want Pillowfort to work, they’ll need feedback, advice, bug reports, etc. This is a chance to make Pillowfort the Ao3 of Fanfiction.net. It’s not gonna happen overnight, you need to give it time and love and it’ll get there.
If you don’t want to pay money to get into the beta, that’s ok. It will be open to the public soon enough and you won’t have to pay a dime. Their financial model moving forward sounds good (a subscription fee for super extra features), but even an Ao3 model would work swell for them probably.
We’re living in an interesting time on the internet. Governments across the world are cracking down on content and yet community run websites are starting to thrive more and more.
Tumblr once upon a time was what Pillowfort is today, but this time, let’s make sure Pillowfort can stay independent from mega corporations.

is it an alright platform with a good community? yes. does it have a lot of potential? yes. does it have a lot of problems still being worked out? yes. are the staff open and responsive? absolutely. do i recommend it? yes, if you’re willing to live in a house while it’s being built.
but it’s not a ready-made replacement for tumblr. set your expectations accordingly.

It’s worth knowing a few fun facts, courtesy of 11foot8.com:
They can’t raise the bridge because it’s a train trestle, and raising it would require closing and modifying miles of busy track.
They can’t lower the road because it’s directly over a sewer main.
They can’t ban trucks entirely because there are too many local deliveries.
That section of road has a speed limit of 25 mph, numerous signs alerting drivers to the 11’8" limit, and recently they added a sensor that activates the stoplight and a flashing “overheight warning” sign so that drivers have to stop and think really hard about going forward.
The clearance is actually nearly three inches more than 11’8", the maximum deviation from the signage allowed.
Trucks have been getting stuck or damaged since the 1960s.
The guy who runs the website (and owns the cameras) says he sees a lot more trucks pull up to the stoplight, look at the warnings, and turn off onto the side road, but about once a month, someone hits the bridge.

Ngl I think it might be worth sucking it up and raising the train track a foot or two, cause checking for structural damage to the bridge and doing repairs is gonna cost more in the long run than one solid bridge lift (or changing up the sewer because that way you’re not interrupting the trains)
Or just closing it to trucks, with heavy enforcement.

Or people should be responsible fucking drivers and learn the height of their damn vehicle and how to read road signs instead of putting themselves and other drivers in danger as a result of their negligence.

The number of people who die or have a serious allergic reaction to a vaccine is astronomically lower than the number of people who died or suffered serious complications from “childhood diseases” and it’s intellectually dishonest to say otherwise.
I really hate the capitalist response of “just don’t take the job then!” or “just quit your job!” when you bring up unfair pay or bad working conditions. As if everyone can turn down a job or quit their job. Some people are desperate for a job, others can’t risk being unemployed. It’s not as easy as just walking away.

People make mistakes, and people/relationships change. Divorce is better than the alternative in a lot of cases. Divorce can also be the right decision for your kids. Please don’t act like it’s that simple and universal.
