poor Tallgeese is having a bad ILT flare-up due to the summer heat! I’ve got her indoors during the day with a humidifier to help open up her sinuses, and am treating her water with electrolytes and boiled oregano.
she still gets to spend the night outside with the Ladies though, and eat breakfast with them – today’s included blueberries and probiotic yogurt!
there is no anti-viral medication for ILT, so the best I can do is keep her comfortable & throw a bunch of holistics her way until this passes
I’m very relieved to report that Tallgeese’s flare-up is passing, and her facial swelling has substantially reduced!
she just needed a few days of being coddled indoors with gourmet food & oregano tea, now she’s back out with the others fulfilling her role as ‘lead hen who’s too stupid to realize she’s in charge’
final update: the swelling & plaques are completely gone, health is restored! and the days are getting colder as we move into fall, so I don’t expect any more flare-ups until next year.
this was a rough, rough summer that took out 1 of my 3 chronically ill birds, but the worst is over.
