Everyone talks about how we autistics tend to stim when we’re excited and/or nervous, and yeah, I do that. But does anyone else also stim when they’re feeling just kinda… idle? Like, when you’re not really doing anything or thinking about anything in particular, and you’re just there Existing, do you just randomly start flapping your hands or jumping up and down on the spot? Or is it just me?
yes yes yes idle stim lot too, always stim someway or other, need the sensory even when not emotion, needed make stim toy cause kept destroy clothe by idle twist & tangle, stim release energy emotion & also just balance input

listen to people who still use asperger’s and people who use functioning labels because it’s the easiest way to communicate their needs and listen to high support autistics when they say they feel dismissed
mmm so one of my past hockey teammates supported a fundraiser for A$ I uhh yeah lol
If you don’t listen to autistic people, then you don’t get to complain about how hard it is to raise an autistic child. You’re literally ignoring the people who are most capable of helping you.
some of yall really looked at neurodivergent people using infantalizing to describe actual ableism and decided “oh yeah i should call any sort of ND aid *i* dont need infantalizing because obviously the world revolves around my experience!” and it shows
THIS. I get so fed up of people who act like acknowledging disabled people are disabled is the same thing as infantilisation.
It seems to get especially bad in developmental disability circles. There’s so much “Well I’m autistic/have ADHD* and I’m a normal functional adult and super smart, so clearly any DD person who needs help with/struggles to understand certain things is just a liar who could do/understand the thing just fine if they tried!!!1!1!” rhetoric.
(* – Not that autism and ADHD are the only two developmental disabilities, but people on social media act like they are.)
[Images: three positivity posts for intellectually disabled autistics. All three posts have white text, four bees in the corners with a white circle around them, with little dotted lines connecting them like flight patterns. The first post has a soft orange background and reads ‘intellectually disabled autistics are amazing’. The second post has a light blue background and reads ‘intellectually disabled autistics deserve compassion’. The third post has a purple background and reads ‘intellectually disabled autistics don’t need big accomplishments to be worthy of love and support. End description.]
“summary? just read the post, don’t be lazy!” some ppl got reading dificulty which make long word, or long post, inacesible.
“no one needs function labels!” for some auties w comorbid disabilitys that make words hard, may be only way to easy comunicate their needs. function labels should not be enforce by outsiders, but ppl who use em to comunicate needs should be allow that.
“no one struggles w this!” think again. always atleast 1 person in world will, but often many more. just cause you never see em not mean never exist.
“autism basicly isn’t disability / only hard cause of society!” think again. even w/o comorbid stuff, some us may got extreme sensitivitys, eating issues (neophobia, ARFID), & more: even in perfect society these WOULD be hard – & comorbid can intensify.
“autistic ppl more smart than average!” don’t. no. just no. there so many us who not “smart”, & this is OK. we donot need number to be value.
To other autistic people, have you ever had a special interest that you completely lost interest in?
