azula: DOthe tides🌊 command this ⛵ SHIP? 😂

captain: um, I’m afraid 😕I don’t understand. 😳

Azula: You SAID the tides🌊 would NOT ❌allow us to bring the SHIP in. Do the🌊 tides✋ command THIS ship?

Captain: No, 🚫Princess. ❎

Azula: And if I were to have you thrown OVERBOARD,🏊🏄 would the tides🌊 think TWICE about smashing🏃 YOU against the ROCKY shore? 🗿

Captain: no 😳, Princess. 😕

Azula: 😈Well, then, MAYBE you should worry LESS about the TIDES🌊😂 who’ve already made up their💡 MINDS😤 about killing YOU👀🚫, and worry MORE about mE🙆, who’s STILL mulling✌🔫 it OVER🔥💯

I drew Azula because I couldn’t stop thinking about this textpost by @firelxrdazula

I don’t know how any of you can suggest that Azula get a redemption arc when I’ve always found her such a profoundly upsetting character as to honestly find her scenes hard to watch

Plus, some people don’t deserve to make up for what they’ve done

Like, don’t get me wrong, she’s a great character, especially given her role within ATLA, but that’s where my respect and ability to stand her ends. She’s awful to the core. Zuko never was.

I’ve seen discussion about what characters deserve redemption arcs before. Characters that are abusive, narcissistic, and manipulative to the core of their being – AKA Azula – are not on that list, and never will be.

I mean, honestly, what did Zuko even really do wrong? I mean, let’s see… He’s been abused and the only consistent caring presence in his life is Iroh, so he’s internalized that, and is an angry individual. But like.. most of what he’s guilty of is a Team Rocket-esque obsession with capturing Aang. I’m blanking on if he’s done anything else, but really.

But Azula? Does she even have any redeeming qualities? I’d wager that even under normal familial circumstances she would’ve been a bit of an asshole.

Fuck Azula, and I WILL die on this hill.

I love that whenever Toph is somewhere where she can’t bend one of the gaang will offer her their arm so she can be safe. Sometimes it’s more obvious like Sokka taking her arm and leading her to safety during The Desert when Aang goes into the avatar state. But sometimes it’s a lot more subtle, like in the background in a bunch of shots of The Painted Lady, when she’s standing on wood over water, she’s holding onto Aang and he makes sure she doesn’t bump into anything.

Avatar gets a lot of credit for showing disabled people who are capable of being independent and doing things themselves but I think people tend to overlook that it also shows sometimes disabled people can’t do things, and that is valid and ok. and through that it also shows the responsibility allies should take in providing assistance to disabled people when its needed

I just realized, Zuko was the only person around to witness Zhao’s demise

I’m imagining like the gaang is just hanging around the fire a few days before Sozin’s Comet just

Sokka: “We’re really going after the Fire Nation again so soon after the Day of Black Sun… They’ll be far more prepared this time too, I bet. I wonder who they’ll send after us…”

Katara: “Probably Azula. She’s already found us once since the Day of Black Sun.”

Toph: “Maybe the Fire Lord himself? That would at least make things easier for us.”

Sokka: “No that would be too convenient. They’d send someone else. Possibly Zhao. We haven’t seen him in a while.”

Zuko: “????”

Aang: “You’re right. Not since the North Pole.”

Zuko: “??????”

Katara: “That is kind of strange, actually, considering how good he was at tracking us up to that point. Do you think something hap–”

Zuko: “Fish ate him.”

Sokka: “What”

Zuko: “Fish spirit ate him.”

Toph: “Fish what

Zuko: “Spirit. Ate him. Didn’t wanna take my hand.”

Aang: “…………….The OCEAN SPIRIT ATE HIM?”

Zuko: “Actually I don’t wanna talk about it.”

I love these tags.

Does.

Does Toph know about the whole Aang-turning-into-a-giant-ocean-fish-spirit thing? Did anyone tell her?

The Gaang play a game where they all sit on sand or something else that confuses Toph’s senses and tell her wild adventures from before they met and she has to guess which ones are true.

They also do this with Zuko, because it’s fun to watch him realise that for all the places he tracked them to, they were usually only there for bonkers reasons.
