I know virtually nothing about the Legend of Korra, but I heard that Avatar Korra was raised in a top secret, highly secure, White Lotus compound, and I like to imagine that if Zuko ever heard those words together in a single sentence he would immediately teleport himself to said compound and kidnap take Avatar Korra on a life changing field trip.
White Lotus Guy: So, due to reasons, Avatar Korra is being raised in a top secret, highly secure compound, the location of which is known only to the most trustworthy members of the White Lotus and Avatar Korra’s parents. We’re giving you a heads up since you’re a world leader.
Zuko: Cool. So when do you want me to break in?
WLG: Uh. What?
Zuko: When do you want me to break in? Like, I don’t want disrupt any of your plans.
WLG: Never. We never want you to break in. We don’t want anyone to break in. That’s the point.
Zuko: Okay, gotcha.
*after WLG leaves*
Zuko: So, they want it to be a surprise.
Katara would totally help him in.
Katara: Look, you broke into the Sun Warrior temple with Aang, and the Boiling Rock with Sokka. It’s my turn to break into somewhere with you.
Zuko: … the Southern Raiders?
Katara: Zuko, that was a boat. Doesn’t count.
Zuko: Okay. I feel like I’m forgetting something important, though.
An Inuk woman is getting harassed on twitter for politely asking an artist to take down their fan art of Katara with Inuit facial tattoos because the artist isn’t Inuit and doesn’t understand their significance and like…fucking this is why I’m wary of the ATLA fandom and fandom in general tbh
Someone from the culture the show based the water tribe on says “hey this is cultural appropriation”, and suddenly fans of this “anti-racist” show jump down her throat because she spoke up.
Seriously ATLA’s fanbase can be…such a cesspool bc people are so complacent in the show’s “woke” source material (which is a subject for another day) and so protective of this thing they’ve built their personality around that someone saying “hey what you’re doing is hurtful” is seen as a personal attack.
This is a show made by white men. I promise you it’s not as progressive as you think.
So this is a good time to remind everyone that Inuit tattooing is a closed practice, and that extends to fanart. There were quite a few Inuit on twitter who were talking about this again recently and asking that non-Inuit people respect that the tradition is not open for everyone.
tired: katara’s painted lady and zuko’s blue spirit are parallels because they’re both disguises that involve face coverings
wired: katara’s painted lady and aang’s kuzon are parallels because they are disguises used to help fire nation citizens in need. ultimately broadening their understanding of the fire nation, the affects of war, and what is important in order to heal the world. accordingly, zuko’s blue spirit and toph’s blind bandit are parallels because they are disguises used by the children of nobility to escape the watchful eyes of their caretakers and anonymously accomplish things for themselves.
FUCK narratives that force a child to forgive their shitty parent out of guilt and/or obligation!!!
FUCK narratives that force anyone to forgive any kind of abuser out of guilt and/or obligation or for some bullshit higher ground and perception of Goodness™
Remember when Zuko shot his dad with lightning and then threw him in jail? That was a good narrative
