On the balloon to boiling rock

Zuko: wait, so your dad NEVER hit you, even when you weren’t as good as your prodigy sister? Wow he sounds amazing no wonder you wanna rescue him.

Sokka: *concerned* dude, not hitting your kid is like, the baseline for being a half-decent parent. That and like, feeding your kid.

Zuko:*shocked* HE NEVER MADE YOU SKIP MEALS WHEN YOU MESSED UP EITHER?!

*Later*

Sokka: *holds Zuko out in front of him by the armpits, dangling him in front of Hakoda* This is yours now.

I feel like Hakoda would take all of an hour of meeting Zuko after Boiling Rock for him to realize why he was to adopt the child and have found a legal way to do so.

Also, Sokka offering his father an extra child is just perfect.

Baby Appa is here to heal your soul

[ID: two digital paintings of Appa from Avatar: the Last Airbender as a baby sky bison. Both paintings are done in soft, warm brown tones. In the first panting, he is shown as if the audience is looking up at him from an angle, his dark underbelly visible. Appa is flying, looking to the side with a neutral expression. The horns on his head are tiny stubs, and his head seems almost too big for his body.

In the second image, Appa is shown angled slightly to the side, looking away from the audience. He is on the ground, all six legs in a wide, almost playful stance with his tail curled behind him. End ID.]

the fact that zuko is having a good time in this scene, wherein he is an inmate in the world’s most secure prison, about to be dragged off to see the warden, who is certifiably evil, but he’s making very tentative escape plans that could easily go horribly wrong while pretending that sokka is beating the shit out of him, is absolutely ridiculous. zuko kvetches every five minutes about how he’s having a terrible time and this is stupid and he’s miserable. hell, at the beginning of this episode he dramatically pronounces “i’m never happy,” to a question that was  obviously rhetorical. but that’s a lie. because he’s happy here. in this abjectly dreadful situation. but no he’s having a good time because hehe aren’t he and sokka so cool, being so sneaky….what a fucking dumbass

I’ve already said it a lot on my blog but, as always, no matter how many times Zuko threatens extreme violence (again, trying to fit in with the social norms of the Fire Nation) he can’t because of his moral compass.

[ID: Two gifs from Avatar: The Last Airbender. The first shows Zuko looking at Zhao after their Agni Kai – Zuko tells him, “Next time you get in my way, I promise, I won’t hold back.” The second shows Zhao being grabbed by the Ocean Spirit – Zuko reaches out to Zhao and says, “Take my hand!” End ID]
