Ah yeah, I see that. Personally to me it’s just leaves, people need to take themselves less seriously.
But specifically I’m talking about in The Haunting of Bly Manor when Dani is making a big thing about how she loves London and how she hasn’t figured out tea yet and how “where she came from” it was in a pitcher with lemons and such and I just.. find that so.. uncomfortable.
When I was in England (though to be fair I spent most of my time in my aunts house not seeing anyone other than my aunt and cousin), I tried to blend in? When I was in Singapore and Thailand I also tried to do the same thing? Hell, I did the same thing in Canada. Like my point is when I’m somewhere foreign like that I don’t do stuff that’ll draw attention to the fact that I’m foreign like bringing up, outside of being asked specifically (”how are you liking…?”), differences and things I don’t completely get?
One of the things I learned from travelling is that I got over being embarassed about being American, but I also feel like it’s just entirely obnoxious when people make a big deal of that stuff.
But yeah, I also find it very annoying when people don’t stop talking about literally anything they take pride in related to their country. Don’t get me wrong, I think patriotism is great as long as you acknowledge your country’s flaws, but sometimes you’ve just got to tone it down, you know?
