The Bennu Heron (Ardea bennuides), believed by Ancient Egyptian people to be the soul of the sun god Ra. It is known to have lived on the Persian Gulf until at least 4000 years ago. The Bennu Heron was similar in morphology and habit to other living Ardea herons.
