I am so fucking sick of aces who are arophobic.

Aces who erase a canon aro’s orientation. Shit likeĀ ā€œit’s easier to be aroaceā€.

Frankly, every time I see someone say something likeĀ ā€œwe can still love, we can still be in romantic relationships, we can still get crushesā€ all I hear isĀ ā€œwe can still be normal. We can still be like you.ā€Ā

Have you ever felt that soul crushing feeling, where you feel like you’re collapsing from the inside out? Every damn time someone says something like that to me, that’s what I feel. I feel like you just stabbed me and I have to keep a smile on my face while you do it, because of course you’re normal. I’m just…..not.

There is nothing easy about being aro. There’s nothing easy about being excluded because you won’t talk about your crush. There’s nothing easy about growing up seeing people who can’t loveĀ being portrayed as the villains, there is nothing easy about seeing every single hero ever walk off into the sunset happily in a relationship. There is nothing easy about being so small of a group that there is no gathering place except tumblr, no easy way to find other aros. There’s nothing easy about having to hide what you are for fear of people’s reactions, there is nothing easy about sayingĀ ā€œI’m in a QPRā€, there’s nothing easy about being mocked for being aplatonic. There is nothing easy about being sidelined in discussions and debates that focus on you, there is nothing easy about aromanticism being so invisible is barely fucking exists. There is nothing easy about hearingĀ ā€œwe can get crushes though! we’re normal!ā€.

There is nothing easy about being aromantic.

But also, saying they can get crushes and whatnot is not inherently a bad thing because it is true for some of them. It’s just factual information about how asexuals can experience their attraction. It’s only a problem when it’s used to erase or exclude aros.

Experiencing romantic feelings without sexual feelings is perfectly normal and cool and you deserve to have comfortable and happy relationships.
