“Physical media is obsolete! The future is all digital!”

This has me worried about the future of customers and their products.

Okay so I’ve mentioned before that I work for Apple tech support. Let me mention a couple fun things.

1. iOS has no way to fully clean its cache aside from factory reset

2. Devices often encounter system wide glitches because the design simply does not allow the customer to do any meaningful changes or fixes. These cases also require a factory reset

3. More people forget their passcodes than you think, especially with the elderly, children, or people with a tablet they don’t use much. A factory reset is the only way to bypass this and prevent your device from being a brick

4. Currently the only way to do a full factory reset is with iTunes on Mac or PC

So either iTunes will still kinda exist, or customers will be forced to go to an Authorized Service Provider or Apple Store to do a basic reset on the phone, which is common and widely used for a multitude of issues.

Dear God I hope it’s not the latter.

FUCK APPLE NOW AND FOREVER

I knew it was evil the moment iTunes locked me out of my own downloaded music. Music I owned on A CD. Fuck apple and their corporate greed.

Class action lawsuit against apple for everyone that had/has an iphone 6 or 7 👀

More details

(Pic description:

WHAT’S THIS ABOUT?

In a consolidated class action lawsuit pending against Apple, Plaintiffs claimed that a performance management feature introduced for iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, and SE devices in iOS 10.2.1, and introduced for iPhone 7 and 7 Plus devices in iOS 11.2, diminished the performance of some of those devices. Apple denies all allegations and is entering into this settlement to avoid burdensome and costly litigation. The settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing by Apple.

Under the settlement, Apple will pay a minimum of $310,000,000 and a maximum of $500,000,000 depending on the number of claims submitted. If the settlement is approved by the Court, your rights may be affected. The United States District Court for the Northern District of California authorized this Legal Notice. The Court will have a Final Hearing to consider whether to approve the settlement so that the benefits may be paid. This summary provides basic information about the settlement.

WHO’S AFFECTED?

You are a member of the Settlement Class if you are or were (1) a United States owner of an iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, and/or SE device (2) that ran iOS 10.2.1 or later or, in the case of iPhone 7 and 7 Plus devices, that ran iOS 11.2 or later before December 21, 2017. You must meet both criteria to be a member of the Settlement Class.

WHAT BENEFIT CAN YOU GET FROM THE SETTLEMENT?

Apple will provide a cash payment per eligible device to each Class Member who submits a timely and valid Claim Form including a serial number of an eligible device and a declaration under penalty of perjury stating that they are or were (1) a United States owner of an iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, and/or SE device (2) that ran iOS 10.2.1 or later or, in the case of iPhone 7 and 7 Plus devices, that ran iOS 11.2 or later before December 21, 2017; and (3) they experienced diminished performance on the device(s).)

As much as I want to see iOS fall, or at least Apple clean up their act, the idea of Android being the only mainstream phone operating system makes me supremely uncomfortable. I may hate Apple, but I really want the options to increase, not decrease. But anyway, I really doubt anything is going to happen to Apple.

You know I don’t think this point has been brought up but there’s something different about jailbreaking an iPhone to get functionality baked into Android and jailbreaking something like a Switch. Because with a game console, at least I don’t personally expect that much out of it outside of playing the game, but with a phone? Something I use every day? That has the potential to reach into a lot of various functions I might need, and restrict my choice there? Yeah, I think that’s different. I onlu use my Switch if I want to play games, so it’s no big deal. But phone is an everything device, so something about restricting users’ choice doesn’t sit right with me.

PROTECT YOUR ONLINE PRIVACY:

(this is a pinned post)

  1. Install and use a VPN that isn’t based in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United kingdom, United States, Denmark, France, Netherlands, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Sweden, or Spain (ExpressVPN and NordVPN are examples)(And only use a server in one of those countries if you have to to access something)
  2. Install and use a tracker blocker (Ghostery, Disconnect, uBlock, DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials, etc)
  3. Use Protonmail (at least sometimes, it’s kinda pointless if you contact people who use Gmail with it)
  4. Use a secure note taking app
  5. Use Firefox (only Chromium based browsers when needed)
  6. Use DuckDuckGo
  7. Use non-Android/iOS phones (if you can, I’m on an Android right now)
  8. Make your social media visibility as strict as it can be on sites like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc
  9. Research this stuff and so what is best for what your risks are (for example, if you’re not a reporter in a hostile environment or such, complete anonymity probably isn’t that important. It’s not attainable anyway, but you don’t have to max it out)
  10. Fight for online privacy

That’s Louis Rossman, a repair technician and YouTuber, who went viral recently for railing against Apple. Apple purposely charges a lot for repairs and you either have to pay up or buy a new device. That’s because Apple withholds necessary tools and information from outside repair shops. And to think, we were just so close to change.

  • Have a friend with that problem
  • Hate Apple and are more than happy to spite them in some way

No one will know which is it

This guy inspired me to repair my own macbook. First of all, you should know that I am not… like, I have to look up HOW to look up what my computer specifications are. Tech, that ware either soft or hard, is not a subject in which I experience comfort or competence.

But my puppy peed on my keyboard, and I asked the apple store, or the fucking mac cafe, or the godsdamn Computer House Chill Zone or whatever cute ass name they have for their bullshit store, and they said it would be TWELVE HUNDRED DOLLARS TO REPLACE MY KEYBOARD. I’m not even exaggerating.

So I asked the internet, well how hard IS it to repair? And I saw this guy’s video, and while I am no techie, I AM fueled by spite, so I was all “oh, they do that shit on purpose specifically so they can charge me $1200 bucks or make me buy a new computer hunh? FUCK THEM” and I bought all the tools I needed for about $25 and I bought all the parts I needed for about another $25 and I watched a few tutorial videos, and I replaced my own keyboard.

So, once you are doing the actual deed, it becomes pretty obvious that they are finding creative ways to make this much harder than it has to be on purpose. On thing that stood out to me is, instead of all the tiny screws being the same size, there are about two dozen very slightly different sizes. They could easily be all the same size, or like, two sizes at most, but no.

These mother fuckers will take a panel that screws into place and they’ll use a different size screw for each corner. They are so close that you almost cannot tell them apart visually, but they each will only screw into the matching corner. Like, it’s a pretty clear “fuck you” to anyone trying to do repairs.

anyway, this guy is also fueled by spite, and doing holy work, and I have mad respect

This is awesome. Man is doing good ass deeds 24/7 because he’s giving people control.

How dare you not leave a link to his channel, this guy is the savior of the modern world.

I don’t have apple products but here ya go

I support the right to repair movement. If you haven’t looked it up it’s a solid concept.
