ADHD.

One of the most unsettling things about having it is the stereotypes and stigmas. You soon start to believe that you’re crazy, lazy, good for nothing, retarded, have brain damage, etc.

One minute you’re an intellectual speaking in coherent sentences with big words and lots of logic….the next you’re not able to process the most basic of human functions like freaking breathing….

I’m fighting. I really am. Everywhere I go it’s the same thing, you’d think I’d grow used to the pain by now after having it ingrained in me…I know God’s got me but as I cry on this bathroom floor at work…I just ask y’all, please pray for me. The harrassment/suicidal thoughts are strong and I am weak. Yet the Lord’s grace is sufficient for He is strong in my weakness.

I’ll pray for you.

bitch i got adhd lmao

Water is one oxygen atom away from being hydrogen peroxide. Take a wild guess at which one will kill you if you drink it…

is it water

This also ignores that meth is a stimulant which add medication is as well because SURPRISE stimulants have the EXACT OPPOSITE EFFECT on people with executive dysfunction calming and focusing them it’s why many self medicate with coffee.

idk if it’s an adhd thing or if it’s a general mental illness thing but when i get/got really fucking angry and flew into a rage i either slapped myself repeatedly or i would bite my hand. like i couldn’t handle my emotions cos they were so big and my first instinct was to take it out on myself. anyone relate?

there are higher rates of self-harm for people with adhd. that’s why many children with adhd hit or bite themselves (as you describe) when frustrated. as they get older, many turn to more serious methods such as cutting, burning, etc. which is why talk therapy is considered a vital part for any individual growing up with adhd. learning how to address negative feelings early on is important and should be practiced more commonly (when possible)

Wait are there still people who actually don’t believe in this?

yup! the big pharma conspiracy theory is alive and thriving. it’s sad, really. people refuse to truly educate themselves on the topic but will rather listen to some rando spewing unnecessary lies about how this condition isn’t real and just made up to “drug our children”. anyway, it’s a big yikes from me

to my girls who have trouble in school

the-philosophers-bone:

it might not surprise you to know that how mental illness is diagnosed is sexist.

most baselines for mental illnesses and the symptom criteria for diagnosis are based on studies of Caucasian males. this includes developmental disorders, like ADHD.

whether it’s a result of gender norms or of biology, girls with ADHD (all 3 types, including what was formerly called “ADD”) typically present symptoms differently than boys. for example: whereas boys might jump out of their seat and be very disruptive in class, girls might display hyperactivity through more subtle means, such as fidgeting and, especially, excessive or loud talking. once they get older, boys start having trouble completing assignments on time because, for example, at midnight on the night before it’s due, they’ll abandon a project to go to something else. girls, however, typically will not abandon projects – instead, they might just have a lot of trouble finishing them, or have a brand new idea for how to do the project at midnight, scrap everything and start all over. but they get it done – making it harder for teachers to notice they’re struggling.

because they’re often better at completing schoolwork and behaving in class than boys, the symptoms of ADHD often don’t catch up to girls until high school, college or early adulthood – when, suddenly, they cannot finish projects the night before and need to plan in advance/time manage – and they realize that they can’t.

i’m speaking here as a mental health worker and someone who has ADHD myself – if you’re a girl in high school or college who’s been struggling a lot, and that description rang true, consider a visit to a psychiatrist. you may have ADHD, and talk/medication therapies can actually change your life.

also this bullshit about adhd not being physically real is so old just open up google scholar and search for yourself it’s 2018 there’s plenty of research w/ a shit ton of proof saying it’s a “””””real””””” thing (even tho it was plenty real before)
