i think that one of the biggies criticisms I’ve heard in regards to the first cars movie is that Lightning’s character development is completely implausible, because “no one can change that quickly”. i care to (strongly) disagree, and here’s why. not a single part of me believes that the residents of radiator springs changed Lightning, but instead, they were able to bring back a part of him that had always been there. Betrayal, fame, and money changed Lightning, not the radiator springs gang. They simply restored his faith in people, and allowed an older version of the race car to come back. did they maybe polish him up? sure. but he was always in there.
