so much of what people call freedom in the US is selfishness and disdain for other people. “why should I care about others’ access to healthcare? if you die that’s not my fault!” maybe it’s not, but what exactly is wrong with a society in which everyone lives a more fulfilling, healthy life? if freedom to you is the freedom to suffer unnecessarily, you’re no better than anyone restricting your freedom for the exact same result, a miserable society of atomized individuals who base their self worth on how much they can adequately serve the ruling class.
so, next time you tell someone they criticize the US because they’re “jealous of the freedom”, ask yourself what material conditions result from your “freedom”. is freedom the highest prison population in the world? is freedom law enforcement massacring innocent people in public? is freedom a lower life expectancy than some countries you’d consider ‘third world’? if it is–which you’d be arguing it is–then why exactly do you think anyone criticizing the US is “jealous of freedom?”
