being interested in economics when the most mainstream economic theory is dumb as fuck is literally painful. like, in my college econ class my professor unironically said canada is “half socialist” and then spiraled into the rightwing venezuela argument. not only that, he treated recessions under capitalism as something that must happen at some point in life, not a consequence of the workings of the system. oh, he also said you shouldn’t complain about poor wages and working conditions because one time he got the manager position at mcdonalds. you can imagine the fun discussion that created with a room full of broke college students.
look, i’m all for studying economic theory I don’t agree with, but at least present it in a realistic and not moronic way…then again a lot of economic theory surrounding capitalism IS based on the idea of capitalism as natural law, AKA inherent to humanity and thus the only acceptable system. but also fuck my econ professor. even my government professor who complained about “crazy commies” had surprisingly accurate critiques of capitalism (so close yet so far).
anyone else have/had the same issue?
