Korvo and Rick Sanchez are obviously very similar, but I’m kind of impressed by how Solar Opposites has made Korvo his own character and not just “Rick-lite.” In the beginning, it felt a little like Korvo was a nicer version of Rick, to the point that their voices even sounded similar (yeah, I know they have the same voice actor, but still.) But in season 2, Justin Roiland really figured out a distinct voice for Korvo that doesn’t just sound like an authoritative, control-freak version of Rick.

Still, Rick and Korvo have a lot in common–they manipulate people to get what they want, insult people who are less intelligent than them and act like they don’t care about anything while secretly craving their family’s attention and approval. I guess the main difference between the two is that Rick knows he’s an asshole and seems to enjoy manipulating people and making them hate him (to an extent, anyway.) Whereas I don’t think Korvo actually wants to be a jerk. It’s just…kind of his personality, lol. I don’t think Korvo genuinely has bad intentions, but Rick is 100% committed to fucking shit up so he can feed his misery and self-loathing.

Also, Korvo has all (or most) of Rick’s intelligence but none of the self-loathing that comes with it. Instead of driving himself insane by doing…whatever the hell Rick did until he showed up on Beth’s doorstep, Korvo seemed to be pretty content to live out his life and follow orders.
