I think people need to be careful when the call for a mask mandate only because since the police, which by now y’all gotta know is racist and violent, enforced those policies in a discriminatory fashion Black people will be harassed and brutalized at higher rates for not wearing masks. A nation wide mask enforcement would see this across the country.

This isn’t to say wearing a mask isn’t important or not needed but it’s not something that should lead to further criminalization. If it’s a public health matter (like addiction and homelessness) instead of arresting people there needs to be education, giving masks to people, and approaching the situation with rationally.

The cognitive dissonance of people simultaneously saying they are anti-cop/ACAB while also calling for mandatory mask laws. Who the fuck is going to enforce those laws??? The police and vigilantes that take the law into their own hands to further target the most vulnerable. Y’all don’t want to reblog this because it complicates the easy cookie cutter solution but it must be said! Criminalizing morning wearing a mask will only further harm Black Latine Indigenous communities.
