Honestly to all of the adults refusing to wear masks and saying it’s not a big deal: fuck you. Your ruining my school life and my social life as a teen. I will be unable to do anything I love and the careers that I want to take part in because you keep making this goddamn virus worse for other people.
This ^^^ 100% and to the old people at work who say they don’t want to listen to all this “nonsense” : fuck you!
Don’t forget although there is a lot of ignorance among older generations, corporations are forcing us to work during a pandemic and our government has done almost nothing to prevent this from happening. If there’s any rage to be had point towards those that have the power to make us fight amongst ourselves.
reblogging for that last comment.
Consistent, fact-based leadership from the top would have eliminated most of this.
As someone from country which flattened the curve before deaths got into tripple digits total i can confirm this. If government didn’t back us up we would be just as fucked as USA
Ok, but as someone who sees all sorts of generations while working at a zoo in Ohio, young people ain’t innocent either. I see a shit ton of teens and young adults, people who are full damn aware of their actions, not wearing their masks either, and the only reason I can come up with why is because it’s ninety degrees out and you will faint if you keep your mask on. Even my work has a ninety degree index, where we are allowed to take our masks off if we are social distancing from others if the heat has gotten so hot mixed with the humidity that breathing is hard. But this is because this is our job, we can’t leave. We can’t duck inside some air conditioned building and escape for a half an hour. If you are worried about fainting because you can’t breathe, then maybe you shouldn’t go at two in the afternoon to the zoo, and this goes for all generations.
My point is, don’t shit on the adults all the time, shit on our own generation as well for not doing their part too. We ain’t innocent either.
I am fully aware but the thing is that if anyone – a customer, a random passerby, anyone – sees that this shop or that or bank or cafe or whatever allows people in without masks and without shields/properly distanced tables/whatever, anyone can call the police and they will send a patrol there to make sure the place follows the state order. If they don’t, there are consequences. Government also 100% backs up business owners and if it’s customers, police can and will escort them out and give them a fee for not wearing masks. So yes, it esentialy boils down to whether people want to follow orders or think themselves smarter than the world pandemic. However, with the zero tolerance from the government’s side, people learned very fast to follow basic hygienic principles like putting masks on and disinfecting hands as they enter buildings. Thanks to that, our cases had been minimal and to make our lives easier, the government started opening more things and toning down on the mask order – we don’t have to wear them on streets and in outdoors in general as long as we keep our distance from other people for example. Quite handy in this heat. So i agree, “cool” kids are also a problem but it’s the colective acceptance of the matter supervised by the country forces (peacefuly mind you, we don’t realy have history of police brutality you guys have behind the ocean) which helped us the most so far.
Several months after the rest of the world the UK government has finally decided to make masks mandatory in English shops. Wales and Scotland have their own rules to make and follow.
I have a friend who had to wear a mask for a hair cut the other day and he was bitching and whining the entire time about “oh I’ve had it on for 10 minutes and I feel faint” like his hair dresser wasn’t standing behind him in a mask, face guard, and gloves, and would be for the rest of the day. When I told him he was going to get zero sympathy from me he just says “whatever” and stopped talking for a while. This guy is 2 months older than me. I expect this behaviour from my people at my dad’s age but to hear it from a guy who was in my year at school makes me fucking rage because he should fucking know better!!!
